Liberty sophomore Makenzy Mizera made a positive first impression during her inaugural appearance at the USATF Indoor Championships, Friday at the Albuquerque Convention Center. She triple jumped 41-10.75 to break her own program record and finish seventh in the competition.
Mizera's record-breaking hop, skip and jump, which also ranks No. 3 all-time in the ASUN Conference, came on her second attempt of the evening. One of only two collegiate competitors in the event, she later produced marks of 41-5, 41-5 and 41-7.75 which all eclipsed her previous best of 41-3.75 from the season-opening Virginia Tech Invitational on Jan. 17.
Mizera was part of an incredible competition which saw both the national champion (Tori Franklin – 48-0.5) and runner-up (Keturah Orji – 47-10.75) break the American indoor record.
Carson Waters, a 2018 Liberty graduate, also did some record breaking in Albuquerque on Friday. He took down his own Liberty men's pole vault alumni record with a personal-best 18-6.5 clearance for 10th place. Waters enjoyed a clutch evening, getting over the bar on his third attempt at both 18-2.5 and 18-6.5, the latter of which added an inch to his previous best.
