The Lady Flames' pipeline from Miami Dade College continues, as Latvian power forward Alise Markova has signed a national letter of intent to attend Liberty University for the 2021-22 academic year.
Markova will be reunited with former Miami Dade teammate Dee Brown, who is a junior on this year's Lady Flames roster.
Markova rounds out the group of five signees who will join the Lady Flames for the 2021-22 season, also including point guards Breya Busby (Fort Mill, S.C.) and Jordan Hodges (Chesterfield, Va.), wing Emma Hess (Beavercreek, Ohio) and center Emily Howard (Vancouver, British Columbia).
Alise Markova (F, 6-2, Riga, Latvia)
Markova helped Miami Dade win 20 games during the 2019-20 campaign, averaging 6.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg and 3.0 bpg. She led the state of Florida and ranked No. 6 nationally in blocked shots. Markova posted a season high of eight blocked shots during a season which featured six double-doubles.
Markova was one of 40 players nationally selected for the 2020 NJCAA National All-Star Team, while also earning first team All-Southern Conference recognition. A standout in the classroom, she was named an NJCAA Academic All-American and was part of both the FSCAA and Southern Conference All-Academic Teams.
Markova helped Latvia place fourth at the 2018 FIBA U18 Women's European Championship, averaging 7.3 ppg and 7.3 rpg. She also represented her native country at the 2019 FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup.

What They're Saying about Alise Markova
"Dr. Susan Summons of Miami Dade College continues to produce first-class individuals who can really play the game of basketball. I am thrilled to have Alise become a part of our Liberty family. Alise is a swing stretch player who has the ability to play all over the court. She brings a high-level skill set that has been seasoned by international competition in Latvia and a high level of junior college play at Miami Dade. Alise has a high basketball IQ and brings maturity that will have an immediate impact for our success. I could not be more delighted than to have her at Liberty and to invest in her future."
Carey Green, Liberty Women's Basketball Head Coach
"No matter the opponent, Alise Markova will bring her own sunshine of enthusiasm, power, work and leadership to the team and the game. Alise is a tenacious shot blocker, rebounder and three-point shooter. She is a selfless teammate and a tremendous player with a high IQ for the game. Alise has a calmness about her spirit, but on the court her game makes a lot of noise that gets the attention of the opponents. She will be a great addition to the Liberty University attack and will be a good fit to the Flames' system. We are so proud of Alise, who will join her former Shark teammate, Dee Brown, who now wears a Flames jersey."
