Ohio natives have made a profound impact on the Liberty women's basketball program over the years, including Kristal Tharp, the Frazee triplets, Ashley Rininger and current Lady Flame Bridgette Rettstatt. Wing player Emma Hess hopes to continue that tradition when she makes the trek from Beavercreek, Ohio to Lynchburg, Va., for the 2021-22 academic year.
Emma Hess (G/F, 5-11, Beavercreek, Ohio)
Hess is coming off an exceptional junior season at Legacy Christian Academy, when she posted 20.3 ppg, 6.7 rpg and 2.7 apg, while shooting 52 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from three-point range. She scored her 1,000th career point, was named Metro Buckeye Conference Player of the Year for the second consecutive season and was a second team All-Ohio honoree.
Hess has helped her team go 65-11 over the last three seasons, capturing three straight Metro Buckeye Conference titles. The Knights also claimed a district title in 2018-19.
"I'm super excited to be joining a university that has great academics and a team that has a winning culture and a fantastic coaching staff," Hess stated. "Liberty is the perfect fit for me."
What They're Saying about Emma Hess
"We are excited to officially have Emma join our Liberty University family. She had attended our basketball camps for several years, and it was evident then that she possessed the competitive desire to succeed at the collegiate level. Emma has developed into a prolific scorer from the wing position. She has a love for the game and a work ethic that matches her desire to develop in the game. Her commitment to Liberty was the first in this crazy COVID era and was so welcomed!"
Carey Green, Liberty Women's Basketball Head Coach
"Emma is truly like a daughter to me. I admire her game, which is as good as any young lady I've seen do it. But when you add her character of selflessness, conscientiousness and effort, she is truly a blend of God-given talent with a God-honoring effort. SPECIAL."
Mark Combs, Legacy Christian Academy Girls' Basketball Head Coach
"A very driven young lady who strives to achieve her goals in life, academics and basketball while attaining a beautiful glow about her as a person, player and teammate...shine bright Emma!"
Chuck Painter, Dayton Metro AAU Coach
