Liberty's synchronized diving pair of freshmen Lauren Chennault and Abigail Egolf-Jensen placed seventh in the women's three-meter synchronized competition on Tuesday at the USA Diving Senior Nationals at IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.
Chennault and Egolf-Jensen scored 210.63 in finals with an average score of 42.13, a significant improvement over their morning preliminary session. The pair saved its best dive for last, scoring 51.03 during round five on an inward 2 1/2 tuck.
This week's meet features the best divers in the nation, and is a qualifying meet for the 2019 FINA World Championships, held July 12-28 in Gwangju, South Korea. The Senior National Championships also serve as a showcase for those divers seeking spots on Team USA for future international events.
This was the first USA Diving Nationals experience in Liberty's program history, continuing a very successful season for Liberty's divers.
Chennault, Egolf-Jensen and fellow freshman Olivia Robinson all competed in the NCAA Division I Zone Diving Championships this spring, the first NCAA postseason appearances for Liberty divers.
Liberty's swimming & diving season continues this summer, as qualified swimmers will compete at the Phillips 66 National Championships July 31 through Aug. 4 in Palo Alto, Calif.
