Widrick Named ASUN Defensive Player of the Week

Liberty goalkeeper Katherine Widrick was named the ASUN Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.
Widrick is Liberty's first-ever ASUN Defensive Player of the Week and the Lady Flames' first-ever ASUN weekly award honoree.
"I am really excited for Katherine to start the season by being recognized for her efforts on Saturday. She played a huge role in our victory and does a lot of small things for us that sometimes go unnoticed," said Liberty Women's Lacrosse Head Coach Kelly Nangle. "To start our first season in the ASUN with a weekly award winner is special. This is a special team, and I'm excited to continue to watch them grow throughout the season."
Widrick, a senior, made 10 saves while allowing just five goals for a .667 save percentage in 60 minutes of action in Liberty's 15-5 season-opening win at Lehigh, Saturday. The Camillus, N.Y., native shut out the Mountain Hawks for the first 41:21 of the contest.
Widrick's effort was her eighth career game with 10 or more saves. Her fifth save of the contest, coming with 6:48 left in the first half, was her 300th career save. The senior also saved all four Lehigh free-position shots that were on frame. Widrick also had five ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers in the match.
Widrick's defensive player of the week honor is the third overall of her career. She received Big South Defensive Player of the Week recognition twice, once as a sophomore (April 4, 2017) and once as a junior (April 24, 2018).
Widrick and the Lady Flames (1-0) will be back in action this weekend with two games. Liberty will first travel to Winthrop (0-2) for a road game, Friday at 3 p.m. On Sunday at 11 a.m., the Lady Flames will take on Notre Dame (2-0) in their home opener at the Liberty Lacrosse Field.
