With spring practice under way for the Liberty softball team, LFSN reporter Nick Pierce had a chance to catch up with Liberty Softball Head Coach Dot Richardson.
Liberty is coming off of a record-setting 2018 season, one that saw the Lady Flames win a program-record 49 games and advance to the NCAA Regional final for the first time in program history. The Lady Flames won their third Big South Championship title, making their third NCAA postseason appearance.
Richardson's coaching staff was named the 2018 NFCA Mid-Atlantic Regional Coaching Staff of the Year, while associate head coach Paige Cassady was voted the 2018 Easton/NFCA Division I National Assistant Coach of the Year.
The Lady Flames return eight all-conference players from last season, led by two-time NFCA All-Region selections in senior pitcher Julia DiMartino and junior infielders Amber Bishop and Autumn Bishop.
Liberty's 2019 softball season opens on Feb. 8, when the Lady Flames will compete in the Puerto Vallarta Challenge. Liberty begins its home schedule Feb. 22, hosting the Liberty Softball Challenge.
