
Liberty Softball Announces 2026 Schedule

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Liberty softball team will open the season at the prestigious NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic, one of the highlights of the Lady Flames' 2026 schedule. Liberty, under the direction of 13th-year head coach Dot Richardson, will face a challenging slate of opponents again in 2026.
Liberty will face two Women's College World Series teams from last year: Oregon and Tennessee. The Lady Flames will also take on 2025 Super Regional participants Alabama, Clemson and Florida State, 2025 Regional finalists Duke, Ohio State and Virginia Tech and Regional teams Michigan, North Carolina, UConn and Virginia. All told, Liberty will face 12 teams which competed in the 2025 NCAA Division I Softball Championship.
Among Liberty's 2026 opponents, Tennessee (4), Oregon (5), Florida State (10), Clemson (11), Alabama (15), Virginia Tech (18), Duke (23) and Ohio State (24) all appeared in the final 2025 NFCA National poll. Liberty faces 13 teams that finished the 2025 season in the top 50 in RPI, including three of the top 10 and seven of the top 25.
Liberty will play 26 of its 56 games at Liberty Softball Stadium. The Liberty Softball Classic (Feb. 20-22) welcomes Toledo, Syracuse and Maryland to Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium. The following weekend, Radford, Marshall and UConn visit for the Liberty Softball Invitational, Feb. 27 through March 1. The Lady Flames also host strong opponents Michigan (March 3), North Carolina (March 31), Duke (April 8), Virginia Tech (April 15) and Virginia (April 28) throughout the season.
The Lady Flames will host four Conference USA series, beginning with Jacksonville State, March 6-8. Liberty will also host conference newcomer Delaware (March 27-29), Western Kentucky (April 10-12) and Louisiana Tech (April 24-26) and FIU. Liberty's CUSA away series include Middle Tennessee (March 13-15), UTEP (March 19-21), Missouri State (April 2-4), FIU (April 17-19) and Kennesaw State (April 30-May 2).
The Lady Flames will open the season Feb. 6-8 at the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Fla. Liberty opens the season on Feb. 6 against 2025 WCWS participant Tennessee before taking on Clemson later that day. A rematch of the 2025 Eugene Super Regional takes place on Feb. 7, as Liberty takes on Oregon, following a matchup with Missouri. The Lady Flames close out the weekend on Sunday against Notre Dame.
Following a midweek game at Florida State on Feb. 10, Liberty will compete in the Bama Bash in Tuscaloosa, Ala., Feb. 13-15. Lady Flames will take face Alabama, Purdue and Georgia Southern in Tuscaloosa.
Liberty's nonconference away schedule includes Florida State (Feb. 10), Ohio State (in Charlottesville, Va. – Feb. 22), James Madison (March 10), Virginia (March 25) and Virginia Tech (April 22)
The Lady Flames finished the 2025 season with a 50-15 record, setting a new program record for single-season victories. Liberty won both the Conference USA regular-season and tournament titles for the second year in a row. The team made history at the 2025 NCAA Bryan-College Station Regional, winning two out of three games against No. 1 Texas A&M to earn its first-ever Super Regional appearance. The Lady Flames were the first team in the Super Regional era to knock out the No. 1 national seed in the Regional round.
Conference newcomer Delaware will host the 2026 CUSA Softball Championship, May 5-9 in Newark, Del. The winner of the CUSA Softball Championship will earn the conference's automatic berth into the 2026 NCAA Division I Softball Championship.
