Liberty women's lacrosse midfielder Mia Toscano has been named the Big South Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.
The recognition is the first of Toscano's career, and she is the first Lady Flames freshman this season to receive the honor. Carly White was Liberty's most recent Big South Freshman of the Week, earning the award on April 11, 2017.
"I'm super excited for Mia to be recognized by the league. This will be the first of many for her," said Lady Flames head coach Kelly Nangle. "She continues to get better and compete every day. I'm excited to watch her grow throughout the rest of our season!"
Toscano once again made her presence known in a home contest against Butler, last Tuesday. The Peters Township, Pa., native tallied two goals, two assists, four points, three draw controls, three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers in the 17-8 victory over the Bulldogs.
She notched a goal in each half and added two assists in the final 30 minutes, helping the host Lady Flames pull away from Butler with a 10-2 surge in the second half. The second assist, which was to Grace Fletcher at the 9:29 mark, put Liberty up, 13-8. Just over two minutes later, Toscano scored her second goal of the day to make it 14-8.
In seven games this season, Toscano has seven goals, four assists, 11 points, 14 ground balls, 10 draw controls and nine caused turnovers. Over the past three games, she has five goals, two assists, eight ground balls, seven draw controls and three caused turnovers.
Toscano and Liberty (5-2) are back in action tonight at Arizona State (5-4). First draw is set for 8 p.m. (Eastern) at the Sun Devil Soccer/Lacrosse Stadium in Tempe, Ariz.
