Liberty Head Men's Soccer Coach Jeff Alder has announced that Jose Gomez has been named Associate Head Coach and A.J. Madero has been named Director of Performance Analysis for the Flames' program.
"I'm blessed to have Jose and A.J. as a part of our performance team as we guide and direct the young men God has sent us," stated Alder. "They both go above and beyond in their willingness to invest in our student-athletes as we come alongside them to help them grow and mature academically, athletically, socially and spiritually. Their commitment to God and Liberty University is unmatched and they are true servants for our program and players."
Gomez, who has served as an assistant coach on Alder's staff since 2014, will be involved in all aspects of the Flames' program as Associate Head Coach. A former standout on the soccer field for Liberty from 1997-2000 and the 2000 Big South Player of the Year, Gomez will oversee and share responsibilities in recruiting, coaching and practice planning, scheduling, professional development and the program's administration.
Madero, who has been a member of the Liberty coaching staff since 2010, will lead supporting personnel in enhancing athletic performance and improving the player development as the program's Director of Performance Analysis. A member of the 2006 and 2007 Flames, the former goalkeeper will oversee physical development, nutrition, recovery and conditioning, while developing uses for performance data, research and innovation.
In addition, Madero will be involved in opposition scouting and analysis and developing key pre-match tactical concepts for both players and staff.
The Liberty men's soccer program will begin preseason practice on Aug. 9. The Flames will open their 2017 season on Aug. 25 at home against Southern Virginia. Match time at Osborne Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
