Liberty catcher/outfielder Autumn Bishop has been named Big South Softball Freshman of the Week for the second straight week, as announced on Monday.
Bishop, a native of Murrieta, Calif, is the first Big South player to be named Freshman of the Week multiple times, as the award began this season. On Feb. 13, her sister, Amber Bishop was named Big South Player of the Week, while freshman Elizabeth Engler was tabbed Pitcher of the Week on the same day.
Autumn Bishop had another standout week at the plate, batting .312 (5-for-12) with one double, one triple and two runs scored at the Wilson/DeMarini Classic in Auburn, Ala.
She recorded one hit in both matchups against No. 2/3 Auburn last week, going 1-for-2 on Thursday before posting a 1-for-3 effort on Friday versus the Tigers. Bishop wrapped up the weekend with her second career three-hit game, batting 3-for-4 with a double, triple and two runs scored against Texas State on Saturday. She led off the game with a double and hit a seventh-inning triple, scoring both of Liberty's runs in the contest.
For the season so far, Bishop leads the Big South with a .367 batting average, .441 on-base percentage, four doubles (tied), three triples, six walks (tied) and 17 runs scored.
The Lady Flames open their home schedule this weekend, hosting the Liberty Softball Classic from Friday through Sunday at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium. Liberty begins its participation at 4 p.m. on Friday, taking on Rhode Island.
