
UC Davis Blanks Liberty, 3-0

UC Davis posted a 3-0 win over Liberty, Friday at the Mary Nutter Classic in Cathedral City, Calif.
UC Davis improves to 3-2 on the season with the win, splitting two games today. The Lady Flames fell twice today, after starting the season out 5-0 last weekend in Florida.
For the game, the Aggies outhit the Lady Flames, 8-7, while Liberty left nine runners on base, compared to six for UC Davis.
Katelyn Kibby tossed a complete-game, seven-hit shutout for the Aggies, walking two.
Liberty's Chase Cassady (2-1) drew the loss, yielding three runs on eight hits, striking out two and walking one while going the distance.
UC Davis' top three hitters in the order recorded two hits apiece, in Brianna Warner, Taylor Peters and Christa Castello. Cleanup hitter Alexis Carney went 1-for-3 with a homer.
Six different Lady Flames posted hits, led by Deidra See's 2-for-3 game.
The Aggies scored two quick runs in the top of the first, as Warner singled and went to second on an error. After a Peters single put runners of the corners, Warner scored on a double-steal play. Castello then drove in Peters with a double. Cassady got out of the inning, inducing a double play and then striking out Ashley Lotoszynski.
Liberty received singles from Emily Sweat and See in the bottom of the second before a flyout ended the scoring threat.
Jasmeen Click led off Liberty's third time at bat with a single, and Jaclyn Amader drew a two-out walk. However, Sweat popped to short for the third out.
Cassady set down seven straight batters, spanning the third through fifth innings while keeping the score at 2-0.
Sarah Robertson drew a walk with one out in the fifth, and went to second on a two-out single by Amber Bishop. Sweat then grounded out to short, quelling the rally.
Carney homered as the first batter in the sixth inning, extending UC Davis' lead to 3-0. Cassady retired the next three batters, bringing Liberty to the plate.
See singled with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, but was left on first following an inning-ending groundout.
The Lady Flames were unable to get the tying runner to the plate in the seventh after Robertson singled with one out, as Autumn Bishop and Amber Bishop flied out.
Liberty will play twice tomorrow at the Mary Nutter Classic. The Lady Flames are scheduled to face No. 9/9 Oregon at 1 p.m. ET before taking on Saint Mary's (Calif.) at 3:30 p.m. ET.
