Lady Flames' Schaefer Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

A week after being named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, Lady Flames field hockey Allison Schaefer was recognized once again by the conference. The goalkeeper was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Monday by the league office.
Schaefer started in goal for Liberty during Saturday's matchup with defending national champion, No. 2 Syracuse, at Hofstra. The Millersville, Pa. native made 10 saves in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Orange.
Schaefer has reached double digits in saves in two of three matches this season. She has 29 saves on the season and a .744 save percentage.
Senior defender Serena Barr was also recognized by the BIG EAST on its Weekly Honor Roll. Barr scored her first goal of the season in the 58th minute against Syracuse to give the Lady Flames a 2-1 advantage. The goal was the 22nd of her career and was assisted by her sister, Bethany Barr. Serena's defense, along with Schaefer's goalkeeping, contributed to Liberty holding Syracuse to a season-low three goals.
