
Lady Flames Shut Down Camels, 9-0

Liberty opened the second half of its conference schedule with a resounding 9-0 win over Campbell, Friday at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium.
The Lady Flames (22-21, 9-4 Big South) snapped a brief three-game winless streak. The Camels fall to 19-23, 5-8 in Big South play entering tonight's second game.
Julia DiMartino (10-9) picked up her 10th win of the season, tossing her third career shutout. She allowed just four hits, striking out five while not allowing a walk. The Lady Flames have posted a Big South-best seven shutouts so far this year.
Katie Baker (6-10) drew the loss, allowing seven runs, five earned, on three hits, with one strikeout and four walks in 2 1/3 innings pitched. Amber Schisler yielded two unearned runs on one hit, striking out one and walking two in 1 2/3 innings of relief.
Deidra See went 1-for-2 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored for Liberty, while Jaclyn Amader and Kassidy McCoy drove in two runs apiece. Sarah Robertson drew three walks, scoring twice, while Tori Zavodny stole two bases.
For Campbell, Karsen Leonhardt went 2-for-2 with a double, while Rachel McCollum and Taesha Duboise both singled.
The Lady Flames raced out to a 4-0 lead during their first time up. A pair of walks and one hit batter loaded the bases with one out. See then lined a two-run double to left-center. With two outs, McCoy smashed a single down the left field line, pushing two more runs across.
DiMartino retired the side in order during each of the first two innings. Leonhardt then led off the third inning with a single to center, before stealing second. However, Leonhardt was thrown out at third after a single to left by Duboise. DiMartino then fanned Amber Schisler for the third out.
Liberty broke the game wide open, scoring five runs in the third stanza. After two one-out walks, Reynolds made it 5-0 with an RBI single. Schisler then entered the circle in relief of Baker. A walk loaded the bases, before See scored on a dropped throw by the catcher. Gingerich then hit an RBI groundout. Amader followed by lining a two-run single to right, making it 9-0, Lady Flames.
During top of the fifth, Leonhardt hit a one-out double to right, but was thrown out trying to stretch it to a triple. Bailey Bjorson then flied out to center, as Liberty wrapped up the shutout victory.
