The Liberty women's tennis team performed well in doubles play on day one of the SMU Red and Blue Tennis Challenge. All three doubles teams collected wins at the SMU Tennis Complex on Friday.
Sophomore Anna Dollar and junior Evangeline Crist improved to 8-2 in doubles play this fall with a 6-4 triumph over Oklahoma State's pairing of Katarina Stresnakova and Lena Ruppert.
The sophomore unit of Rebekah Anderson and Aleksandra Panchenko improved to 6-3 in the fall campaign with a 6-2 win over Wyoming's Dorottya Jones and Milka Genkova. Panchenko also picked up an 8-0 singles victory over Wyoming's Imogen Clews.
Seniors Emily Groeneveld and Mariely Hassey topped host SMU's Sara Jamal and Mary Wright, 6-1.
"We played good doubles today and fought hard in singles but didn't compete correctly," stated Liberty head coach Jeff Maren. "This level of competition forces us to raise our games, but we didn't do enough of that. As long as we learn from these matches and improve for tomorrow's matches, then it'll be worth it."
Day two of the Red and Blue Challenge begins at 10 a.m., Saturday.
