As the Liberty softball team prepares to head to South Carolina for five games in the Palmetto State this week, Nick Pierce of the Liberty Flames Sports Network (LFSN) had a chance to talk with head coach Dot Richardson, this afternoon.
Liberty (4-9) has faced a challenging early schedule, including three teams (No. 1 Florida, No. 24 South Alabama and No. 25 Kansas) which are currently ranked in the national top 25. The Lady Flames beat Arkansas on Feb. 13 for the program's first-ever win over an SEC opponent. Freshman Tori Zavodny leads the Lady Flames with a .351 batting average, while redshirt junior Chandler Ball leads the pitching staff with a 3-4 record, 37 strikeouts and two shutouts.
The Lady Flames compete at South Carolina tomorrow at 6 p.m., the team's third game against an SEC opponent this season. Liberty will then play in the Holy City Showdown, hosted by College of Charleston Friday through Sunday. Liberty is scheduled to face Dartmouth, Jacksonville, South Carolina State and Loyola Chicago at the invitational.
