Flames Finish Linger Longer Invitational in 8th Place

Liberty closed out this weekend's Linger Longer Invitational with a 3-over par 291, finishing the two-day event in eighth place.
Most teams struggled during the closing stretch of holes, including the Flames who had their team score on the day at 3-under par midway through the round. However, Liberty finished a combined 7-over par for its five golfers during the last five holes of the tournament.
Two teams survived the late tournament conditions, paced by No. 3 Texas. The Longhorns closed out the tournament with a 5-under par 283 to win the 15-team event by six strokes with a 24-under par 840 winning score (273-284-283).
No. 35 Georgia was the only other team in the field to post a score in red figures on Sunday, a 3-under par 285. The Bulldogs finished second to Texas with a 19-under par 845 (280-280-285).
No. 25 Kennesaw State (273-280-294), who shared hosting duties with Mercer, and No. 20 North Carolina (277-282-288) finished the event tied for third with a 17-under par 847.
No. 15 Oklahoma rounded out the top five teams, finishing in fifth place with a 13-under par 851 (283-277-291) on the Great Waters Golf Course (par 72, 7,073 yards).
Liberty finished in eighth place with a 1-over par 865 (284-290-291). The Flames concluded the event between No. 24 Alabama, who was seventh with a 4-under par 860 (284-286-290), and No. 30 Clemson, who took ninth place with a 5-over par 869 (284-290-291).
The top two spots on the individual leaderboard remained unchanged during the final round, allowing No. 10 Lee McCoy of Georgia to claim medalist honors with a winning score of 14-under par 202 (65-70-67).
No. 11 Beau Hossler of Texas took second place with a 12-under par 204 (67-69-68), followed by No. 20 Ben Griffin of North Carolina, who finished in third place with a 10-under par 206 (70-66-70).
Liberty's Mathieu Fenasse closed the event with his fifth sub-70 round in three tournaments, allowing the senior to climb 26 spots on the leaderboard and finished tied for 12th place.
Fenasse had two birdies and an eagle on the par-5, No. 18 hole (540) to finish the event with a 4-under par 212 (70-74-68). He has now posted an under-par score in each of the last two tournaments and three times overall this season.
Isaiah Logue saw his string of four straight under-par rounds come to an end on Sunday. The freshman had four birdies, but he also had three double bogeys and a bogey, finishing the event tied for 25th place with an even par 216 (71-70-75).
Payton Taylor finished the tournament tied for 47th place with a 3-over par 219 (75-68-76), while Hutson Chandler was able to rebound from his tough second round to finished tied for 53rd place.
The redshirt freshman offset three bogeys and a double bogey with five birdies, posting an overall score of 4-over par 220 (70-78-72).
Adam Eineving rounded out Liberty's golfers in the field, finishing tied for 80th place with a 20-over par 236 (73-80-83).
The Flames return to the golf course on Easter Weekend when Liberty travels to Franklin, Tenn., to participate in the Mason Rudolph Championship. The three-day, 54-hole event is hosted by Vanderbilt on April 3-5 at the Vanderbilt Legends Club.
