
Lady Flames Conclude Play at ITA Atlantic Regional

The Liberty Lady Flames tennis squad saw their historic run at the ITA Atlantic Regional come to a conclusion this afternoon at the Cook Tennis Center in Lynchburg, Va.
Liberty finished the evening with a 1-3 record including 1-2 in singles action and 0-1 in doubles play.
The Lady Flames' lone win came in a back-draw match when Emily Groeneveld was granted the victory after Fallon Burger of Longwood withdrew from the competition.
Liberty began its contest in singles play with Belen Rivera falling to Skylar Morton in straight sets. Rivera took Morton down to the wire in the first set before the Virginia singles contestant pulled away for a 7-5 victory. Morton then notched a 6-3 victory in the second set to oust Rivera from the competition.
Shortly after, Maria Khval began her singles competition in the round of 32 against Katherine Butler of Virginia Tech. Khval notched a hard fought first-set victory after defeating Butler, 7-6 (7-2). Butler responded in the second and third sets, taking 6-1 and 6-3 victories to claim the match.
The final match for the Lady Flames came from the doubles team of Evangeline Crist and Valerie Thong. After becoming the first Liberty duo to reach the ITA Doubles quarterfinals, the doubles tandem fell against Risa Nakagawa and Victoire Saperstein of Georgetown, 8-5.
The ITA Atlantic Regional will continue through Monday with the singles finals being played at 9:30 a.m. followed by the doubles finals at 11:30 a.m.
