
Women’s Tennis Caps Weekend with 4-3 Comeback Win at William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Liberty women's tennis team (12-6) split a pair of matches in Williamsburg, Va., this weekend, initially falling to No. 29 Charlotte () 4-2 before securing a dramatic 4-3 come-from-behind victory at William & Mary (12-5).
The Lady Flames took on No. 29 Charlotte in a neutral-site match in Williamsburg on Saturday morning. Liberty faced a 3-0 deficit and showed fight with getting two matches back, but ultimately came up short 4-2.
Liberty took on the weekend's host, William & Mary, falling in the doubles round once again. The Tribe secured matches on courts two and four before Liberty tied the match with a trio of three-set triumphs. Maria Turchetto added the exclamation point on the comeback with a resilient 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 win on court three.
Daniella O'Neill (11-3) shined with two triumphs in the No. 1 singles position. She now sports a six-match singles winning streak, all in the leading position. Milana Tsulygina also secured a pair of singles wins over the weekend.
The Lady Flames improve to 6-5 on the road this season and 3-1 in their past four matches. They are currently 3-2 on a stretch of eight consecutive road matches to close out the regular season.
No. 29 Charlotte 4, Liberty 2
Against Charlotte, the 49ers secured the doubles point after winning at No. 2 and No. 1 doubles. Shona Nakano and Andrea Chacon claimed a 6-4 victory over O'Neill and Tsulygina on court two. The No. 1 doubles match saw the 21st-ranked pair of Ni Xi and Sara Suchankova defeat Yoanna Radulova and Maria Turchetto, 6-4.
In singles play, Charlotte added to its lead at No. 5 singles, where Prisca Abbas defeated Candy Wai, 7-5, 6-3. Charlotte then secured a win at No. 6 singles, as Yelyzave Chainykova rallied past Celina Joseph, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, to make the lead 3-0.
Liberty narrowed the gap with a victory at No. 1 singles, where O'Neill triumphed over Xi, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. However, Tsulygina followed with a triumph over against Lucia Aranda with a 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-0 final. Charlotte secured the match on court two as Nakano bested Radulova at No. 2 singles, 4-6, 7-6 (8), 6-2, concluding the day with Charlotte prevailing 4-2. Turchetto's match went unfinished on court three, 7-6(3), 5-7, 4-1, facing Suchankova.

Turchetto clinched the fourth point and match victory in the No. 3 singles match against Davis. The Junior responded after a disappointing first set, earning a narrow second set, ousting the Tribe with a 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 triumph to close out the weekend.
