
LU Softball to Enter Tourney as Third Seed

Liberty has been announced as the No. 3 seed for this week's Big South Softball Championship presented by Texas Roadhouse in Radford, Va. The Lady Flames, who finished in third place in the conference for the third time since 1994, will take on the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers on Thursday at 12:30 p.m.
The Lady Flames (22-33, 10-8 Big South) will enter the tournament on a three-game winning streak after sweeping Coastal Carolina in Conway, S.C., 8-1, 8-3 and 11-9, over the weekend, to conclude the 2009 regular season. The victories marked Liberty's third conference sweep of the year, as the Lady Flames also took series wins over Charleston Southern and Presbyterian.
Radford earned the regular-season championship and the No. 1 seed in the tournament with a 16-2 Big South record this year, while Winthrop (15-3) garnered the second seed. Charleston Southern finished the year at 7-11 in conference play to land the No. 4 slot, while No. 5 seed Gardner-Webb (6-12) and No. 6 seed Coastal Carolina (4-14) round out the field.
The 2009 Championship begins Thursday, with four games scheduled, and continues with double-elimination bracket play through Saturday. The tournament champion will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Softball Tournament.
