
LU to Conclude Regular Season at Coastal

The Lady Flames will conclude their 2009 regular season this weekend, taking on the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers in a three-game conference series. The first game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday night, with a doubleheader taking place on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
The Chanticleers (15-33, 4-11 Big South) are currently on a four-game losing streak, after being swept by Winthrop, 9-0, 9-3 and 10-2, last weekend, and falling to South Carolina, 6-2, on April 21. Coastal Carolina's last win came on April 21 at UNC Wilmington, when the Chanticleers defeated the Seahawks, 1-0.
Michelle Evans ranks ninth in the conference with a .331 batting average, recording 45 hits and 16 RBIs.
Coastal hurler Ivy McCranie is 3-7 on the year and posts a 3.22 ERA with 65 strikeouts in 93.1 innings of work.
The Lady Flames (19-33, 7-8 Big South) enter the series after dropping two close contests to UNC Greensboro on Wednesday, 3-1 and 2-1.
The Liberty offense has performed well in conference play this year, with five Lady Flames' starters batting over .300. J'nae Jefferson leads the team, batting .349 in Big South play, with 15 hits and six RBI, while Beth Bennett has recorded 13 hits and 11 RBIs for a .325 average.
Tiffani Smith (8-11) continues to lead the Big South in pitching, with a 2.00 ERA and 136 strikeouts in 145.1 innings pitched. Sarah Ellis (11-19) is close behind, with a 2.68 ERA and 120 strikeouts in 154.1 innings of work, ranking third in the conference.
Liberty is 18-26 all-time against Coastal Carolina, and walked away with an 8-2 victory the last time the two teams faced off, which was in last season's Big South Championship on May 9, 2008.
In last year's regular season series, Coastal Carolina took two of three games from the Lady Flames in Conway, S.C. on April 12 and 13.
