The Lady Flames are set to travel to Farmville, Va., tomorrow afternoon to take on Longwood in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
The Lancers (18-17) are 2-2 against Big South opponents in 2009 after taking two of three games from Presbyterian on April 11, and falling to Radford, 10-4, on April 16.
Longwood comes into the doubleheader having won eight of its last 11 games, and the team has posted wins over Elon, Georgetown and Norfolk State, and split a doubleheader with Virginia on April 8.
The Lancers, who are 7-1 at home, are led by Camille Ketsdever, who is batting .391 with 43 hits, 18 RBIs and 20 runs scored, and Emily Radford, who is batting .337 with 31 hits and 25 RBIs.
Pitcher Briana Wells is 14-14 on the year, and has tallied 110 strikeouts in 165.1 innings of work, posting a 2.96 ERA.
Liberty (15-27, 4-5 Big South) has lost four straight after being swept by Virginia Tech at home yesterday, 10-3 and 4-3. Despite recent setbacks on the scoreboard, the Lady Flames' bats are on fire, as the team has recorded five or more hits in 10 out of their last 12 games.
The Lady Flames are led by senior Beth Bennett, who is batting .286 with 32 hits and 20 RBIs. Freshman Danielle Howard is batting .264 with 29 hits and 12 RBIs.
The Liberty pitching staff led the Big South last week with the lowest combined ERA (2.55). Tiffani Smith, last week's Big South Pitcher of the Week, is 7-9 on the year, having struck out 113 batters in 124.2 innings pitched, with a 2.13 ERA. Sarah Ellis (8-18) has posted a 2.87 ERA with 104 strikeouts over 143.2 total innings.
Liberty is 9-18 all-time against Longwood, falling in last year's doubleheader, 7-1 and 3-0, at home. The Lady Flames have not defeated the Lancers since 2004, when they claimed a 3-2 decision on the road on April 15.
