The Trojans held the Lady Flames to just two hits as Troy shut out Liberty, 3-0, at the FSU Invitational Saturday morning, in Tallahassee, Fla.
The loss was Liberty's third straight since the tournament began Friday.
The game remained scoreless until the top of the third inning. Troy shortstop Jackie Di Siervi led off the inning with a double to left field, and pinch runner Katie Ely advanced to third on a single by Kaitlin Kenney. Ely then scored to make the score 1-0 when third baseman Rocky Paige hit a sacrifice fly deep to right field.
The Trojans added another run in the top of the fourth. Tasha Elmore led off with a double to left, and eventually scored on a passed ball to put the Trojans up, 2-0.
The Lady Flames recorded their first hit of the game in the bottom of the fifth when J'nae Jefferson singled to center field with two outs. But the inning ended without a Lady Flames run when Jefferson was forced out at second on a ground ball by Amber Depasquale.
Troy added their final run of the day when right-fielder Tasha Elmore hit a solo home run to lead off the top of the sixth inning.
The Lady Flames threatened to rally in the bottom of the sixth when Keely McMillon singled down the right field line. But Liberty could not muster another hit to knock in pinch runner Jennifer Pittman, as Danielle Howard struck out swinging and Beth Bennett flied out to right field.
The final inning went three-up, three-down on both sides to end the game.
Jefferson and McMillon were both 1-for-2 for Liberty, while Elmore batted 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Trojans.
Allison Moore (6-1) picked up the win in the circle, giving up two hits and striking out five batters in the complete-game shutout.
Tiffani Smith (2-3) took the loss, scattering eight hits.
The Trojans improve to 17-6 on the year, while the Lady Flames drop to 3-9.
