
Liberty Defeats George Mason, 6-1

The Liberty Flames men's tennis team won its second consecutive match, Saturday night, indoors at the Burke Racket Club, downing the George Mason Patriots, 6-1.
The Flames, who move to 2-1 on the year, opened the match in convincing fashion, with a sweep of the doubles matches to take a 1-0 advantage. Liberty's Giancarlo Lemmi and Clay Cypert defeated the Patriot pairing of Brian Fitzgerald and Daniel Schneider, 8-4 in No. 1 doubles. The Flames' duo of Chad Simpson and Georgio Machado took the No. 2 contest, 8-5, over Jordan Lipstock and Jorge Osuna, while Louis Steyn and Juan Reyes completed Liberty's doubles sweep with an 8-0 win in No. 3 doubles over Arjun Sanghvi and Zack Schneider.
In singles, the Flames continued their success by capturing five of the six contests. Liberty's Steyn, Lemmi, Simpson, Machado and Reyes each won their singles matches. Reyes in the No. 6 singles match only dropped one set in a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Imran Nayeem, while Lemmi at No. 3, Simpson at No. 4 and Machado in the No. 5, each won their matches in straight sets. Steyn took his No. 2 match over Osuna, 6-3, 3-6, 10-5.
The Liberty men's tennis team next hosts Lynchburg College at the Sport Racket on Feb. 7. Match time is set for 6 p.m.
