Liberty's Joshua Boateng Named Big South Men's Soccer Player of the Week

Liberty midfielder Joshua Boateng has been tabbed as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Soccer Player of the Week for games played Sept. 10-16, the league office announced this afternoon.
Boateng, a junior from Accra, Ghana, becomes the first Liberty player to garner the weekly honor this season. The midfielder recorded both Liberty goals in a 2-1 victory over UNC Wilmington this past Sunday, and helped push Liberty up to No. 9 in the NSCAA South Atlantic Regional rankings. The Flames are off to their best start since 1999 with a 4-1 record.
Boateng connected on his only two shots of the match in the Flames' victory over the host Seahawks in the final contest of the UNC Wilmington/Jameson Inn Soccer Classic. The multi-goal game marked the first of his career at Liberty. He was also named to the UNC Wilmington/Jameson Inn Soccer Classic all-tournament team for his efforts in the tournament against the College of Charleston and UNC Wilmington.
On the season, the junior midfielder is off to a strong start with seven points on three goals and an assist. Boateng's three goals tie him for the team lead in the category. Defensively, the midfielder has helped Liberty post a .80 goals against average in their first five games.
Boateng and the Flames are in action again tomorrow as they host Longwood at Liberty Soccer Field. Match time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
