Sam Thomas began serving as the Video and Analytics Coordinator in July 2020 and was later elevated to Director of Operations in April of 2022.
In his current role, Thomas manages all gear for the program, maintains facilities and equipment, oversees technology, hires student managers, administers the budget and assists in all team operations. He is also the director of Flames Basketball Camps.
Thomas began his time with Liberty men’s basketball as a student manager in 2016 and then moved into a graduate assistant position in 2018. He completed his undergraduate degree in Exercise Science and is currently working towards a Masters in Coaching and Athletic Administration.
Thomas began his collegiate career playing at Johnson University from 2014-15 in Knoxville, Tenn. Prior to college, Thomas played at Denbigh Baptist high school in Newport News, Va. where he was an all-conference selection in basketball, tennis and soccer. On the court, Thomas averaged 22 points and 10 rebounds per game during his senior season.
A Newport News, Va. native, Thomas is the son of Marvin and Sharon Thomas and has an older sister, McKenzie Thomas. Thomas and his wife Stephanie, a Liberty graduate, were married in April 2021, and both are from Newport News, Va.
