Time now for Today's Liberty Flames Minute! Brought to you by Select Bank for this Tuesday, January 2, 2024, I'm Nick Pierce.
For the first time this season, Flames football tastes defeat. Monday, in the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl, No. 8 Oregon downed No. 23 Liberty, 45-6. The Flames scored first and led 6-3 after the first quarter but the Ducks scored on four-straight possessions in the second quarter to take control. Flames Head Coach Jamey Chadwell's team finishes 13-1.
"I'm not going to let today and our team's not going to let today diminish what they accomplished over 13 weeks. We wish we would've played better today, no doubt. I think the biggest lesson that we, as a team and a program, have to learn is when you play on these big stages, big moments, what do you have to do consistently to make sure you play you're best because our chance was to play our best game. We didn't play our best game."
And from men's hoops on Monday, liberty topped Boyce, 88-46 in Lynchburg. Liberty closes non-conference play at 11-4.
