The Liberty women's tennis team will begin its 2017-18 campaign at the South Carolina Fall Invitational, Friday through Sunday at the Carolina Tennis Center.
The three-day tournament features a strong crop of teams: No. 15 South Carolina, Winthrop, Marshall, North Florida and James Madison.
On Friday, each team will play two hidden dual matches per team. Saturday's action will feature one hidden dual match per team. The invitational will conclude on Sunday with individual championship matchups for singles and doubles based on point accumulation.
"This will be a great test for us as we begin our fall season," stated Liberty Women's Tennis Head Coach Jeff Maren. "Our girls will have the opportunity to go up against some very good players, which will give us a barometer as to where we are and what we need to work on before our next event at Wake Forest."
A live video stream will be available for the weekend. Find the link for the stream on the women's tennis schedule page on LibertyFlames.com. Results from the invitational, as well as a recap, will be available at the conclusion of each day on LibertyFlames.com.
Liberty returns six players from last year's squad which earned a share of the Big South Conference's regular-season crown for a second straight year. Senior captain Evangeline Crist leads the group of returners, while juniors Anna Dollar, Rebekah Anderson, Aleksandra Panchenko, Audrey Brown and sophomore Eugenia Camacho comprise the rest of the returners.
The Lady Flames welcome in six new players to the 2017-18 squad. Transfers Ashley Bongart, Maria Medina and Lara Soares will provide valuable experience to the squad, while freshmen Nasha Ghajar, Grace Hashiguchi and Polina Miroshnichenko will all be crucial to the success of the program.
