Lady Flames Sweep Lamar 3-0 in Home Opener

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Liberty volleyball team opened its home schedule with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-23) sweep over Lamar, Friday at Liberty Arena.
Friday's match was the first contest of the Liberty Mountain Madness invitational featuring Liberty, Lamar and High Point.
The Lady Flames improve to 3-2 on the season, while Lamar falls to 0-4. The Cardinals will face High Point tomorrow at 2 p.m.

- Liberty outhit Lamar .298-.202 for the match, also leading in aces (5-3), digs (43-36) and blocks (7-6).
- The Lady Flames had six players record between seven and nine kills, led by Carly O'Brien's nine kills at a .421 pace. Laney Daniell registered eight kills (.615), three blocks and two aces, while Layla Collins (.636, three blocks), Addiston Hart (three blocks), Jenna Otts and Paige Overcash had seven kills each. Charli Crowson dished recorded 19 assists and eight digs, while Melis Ural collected a match-high 13 digs.
- Lamar's Nisaan Martinez sent down a match-high 10 kills at a .474 pace, while Kinley Elms hit .389 with nine kills. Rihanna Carter posted a match-high four blocks. Katelyn Hughes tied for the match high with 19 assists, while Gabby Baker collected 11 digs.Â
- The Lady Flames did not let Lamar reach double digits in either of the first two sets.
- Lamar responded in the third set, scoring four straight points to take a 22-20 lead. However, Carly O'Brien then sparked a 5-1 match-clinching run which featured an Otts kill and two combo blocks from Otts and Collins.Â
- Liberty and Lamar met in volleyball for the first time tonight. However, second-year Liberty Head Coach Jeremy White now holds an 8-2 record against Lamar. His Southeastern Louisiana teams posted four straight 3-0 sweeps of Lamar in 2023 and 2024.
- The Lady Flames have now won their home opener each of the last five seasons, with three of those five home-opening wins being 3-0 sweeps.
- Liberty is 5-2 in sets decided by two points this season.
