During August and September, Liberty student-athletes collected donations for the Dollar Makes A Difference (DMAD) initiative. Student-athletes raised a total of $15,077, a new record. For the fourth straight year, the Flames football program led the way by raising $6,143, which included Liberty Football Head Coach Jamey Chadwell personally matching the team's original goal of $2,250.
With the generous donations, Liberty Athletics supported over 50 teachers, children in foster care, local school supply ministries and over a dozen Liberty University housekeepers.
"Dollar Makes a Difference (DMAD) has been the most impactful community outreach I have had the opportunity to participate in. Being able to fundraise to purchase much-needed school supplies for our community was amazing," said Liberty baseball sophomore Kaleb Smith. "Seeing the smile on students' and teachers' faces when we delivered the donations was priceless and something I will never forget. I can't wait to serve with DMAD again next year!"
Since the establishment of Dollar Makes A Difference in 2010, Liberty's NCAA Division I student-athletes have raised over $120,000 for Lynchburg community area schools. The funds have been used to purchase highly requested school supplies to help meet the needs of both students and teachers.
Liberty University student-athletes give their time and effort in demonstrating love and care by serving the local community throughout each school year. Using the NCAA Athletics platform, Liberty's student-athletes make a difference in the lives of individuals of all ages in both the public and private sectors.
"Love. Care. Serve." Â is the promise Liberty student-athletes have for each other and the Lynchburg community, with the goals of demonstrating love, caring for those in need and serving with a grateful heart.
