Daniell Named CUSA Offensive Player of the Week

Following a standout opening weekend to the season, Liberty sophomore middle blocker Laney Daniell has been named Conference USA (CUSA) Offensive Player of the Week.
A native of Kennesaw, Ga., Daniell is the fourth player on the 2026 Liberty volleyball team with at least one carer CUSA Offensive Player of the Week honor, joining Carly O'Brien, Jenna Otts and Paige Overcash.
Daniell helped Liberty post a 2-1 record at the Buccaneer Classic, in a field which included an SEC team (Auburn), Akron and 2025 SoCon regular-season champion ETSU.
For the weekend, she averaged 2.83 kills per set while hitting .410. She came into the season with a career high of eight kills, and set a new career high in all three matches this weekend.
On Friday against Auburn, Daniell scored a team-high nine kills at a .368 clip. On Saturday against Akron, she posted her first career double-digit kill match, hitting .368 with 12 kills, helping Liberty to a 3-1 win over the Zips as the Lady Flames hit .282 as a team.
During Saturday's final match, she scored a career high 13 kills, hitting .478 while helping Liberty to a 3-2 win over ETSU. Her 13 kills were the most by a Liberty middle blocker in a match since Madison Blane's 16 kills against Louisiana Tech, Nov. 3, 2023. She had one of the biggest kills of the match, tying set three, 30-30, with a kill as Liberty won 32-30. She combined with Paige Overcash for the match-clinching block, as Liberty won set five, 18-16.
The Lady Flames (2-1) head to Charlottesville, Va., for a 6 p.m. match tomorrow against Virginia at John Paul Jones Arena.Â
