LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty's Maddyson Kerley was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
The junior receives her first-ever CUSA Player of the Week award. She represents the fourth Player of the Week honoree for the Lady Flames this season (Ainsley Leja (Goalkeeper), Sept. 15, Avenley Monteith, Sept. 29, Sallie Garner, Oct. 6). Liberty is the second CUSA team, alongside Western Kentucky, with three CUSA Defensive Player of the Week selections this season.
Fighting through a weekend full of rain and wet conditions, the defender helped hold visiting FIU to three total shots with a single shot on goal. Liberty has allowed just a single goal in four conference games this season. The Lady Flames have held their opponents to five shots and two shots on goal or less in five games this season.
The victory earned Liberty sole possession of first place in the CUSA standings. The triumph extended Liberty's winning streak to a Division I-leading nine games (tied with two).
Liberty (11-2-1, 4-0-0 CUSA) returns home to host FIU (4-5-3, 1-2-0 CUSA) on Sunday at 1 p.m. The contest from Osborne Stadium will be streamed live on ESPN+.
