Zealand Returns to USTFCCCA XC All-Academic Team

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty's Allie Zealand was named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I Women's Cross Country All-Academic Team. Additionally, both the Flames and Lady Flames were honored as USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams for their overall academic success as a program.
Zealand helped Coach Heather Zealand's women's cross country squad record a cumulative team GPA of 3.68. Meanwhile, coach Isaac Wendland's men's team boasts a team GPA of 3.25.
Zealand garnered USTFCCCA All-Academic Team recognition for the second year in a row by virtue of her all-region performance and a cumulative GPA above 3.25.
A Forest, Va., native, Zealand owns a 3.75 GPA as a civil engineering major. She was previously voted to the CUSA All-Academic Team, becoming the only women's sophomore to earn that honor this season.
Zealand put an exclamation point on an outstanding season by finishing 21st at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships to become an All-American for the first time. Zealand notched top-five finishes at six consecutive meets to begin the year, headlined by a CUSA individual victory and a fifth-place all-region showing at the NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships. Zealand rewrote the Liberty women's cross country record books, finishing with the top 5K (15:54.7) and 6K (19:06.8) times in program history.
