Defense Propels Liberty to 2-0 Victory at New Mexico State

The Flames struck early off a corner set piece. The goalie initially blocked the ball out of the penalty area but found Gabby Miranda. The midfielder quickly found Avenley Monteith with space, who sent a blistering low ball past a diving goalkeeper to open the scoring.
Liberty's stifling defense suffocated any chances that the Aggies' attack would generate. New Mexico State did not tally its first shot until there were 10 seconds remaining in the half.
The Lady Flames earned a free kick on the edge of the penalty box in the second half. Halle Engle took the free kick and capitalized on the chance, sending a low ball under the wall of defenders and to the corner of the net to double the lead. The Aggies' goalkeeper barely flinched towards the attempt.
Liberty picks up its first Conference USA victory after drawing its first two league games of the season. The Lady Flames improve to 4-0-2 on the road this season.

"I was very pleased with the performance and the result today. I thought we defended real well, denying them any real challenges. Hopefully, this spurs some momentum moving forward in conference play after a long, tough trip. To God be the Glory!"
