
Liberty Rallies from 2 Down, Tops Rutgers 3-2

BUFFALO, N.Y. -Â After trailing Rutgers 2-0, Liberty rallied for a 3-2 victory over the Scarle Knights (28-30, 15-25, 25-18, 25-16, 15-12), Saturday at Alumni Arena.
The Lady Flames (3-0) won the Buffalo Invite, sweeping both Marist and Buffalo yesterday before posting a reverse sweep of Rutgers today. Rutgers and Buffalo both hold 1-1 records on the season and will square off tomorrow afternoon in the final match of the Buffalo Invite.
Tonight marked Liberty's first-ever win over a Big Ten team in volleyball, at time of meeting. Â
Notable Numbers
The Lady Flames will compete in the Mountaineer Invitational, Thursday through Saturday in Morgantown, W.Va. While in West Virginia, the Lady Flames will take on Coppin State, West Virginia and North Dakota.

Notable Numbers
- Liberty outhit Rutgers .292-.273 for the match, while the Lady Flames led 11-7 in aces. The Scarlet Knights held leads in kills (66-63), digs (67-56) and blocks (10-6). Â
- Four Lady Flames (Paige Overcash -16 at .556 pace; Carly O'Brien – 13; Charli Morris – 9; Laney Daniell – 6) recorded career highs in kills. O'Brien added a career-high 14 digs for her first career double-double. Charli Crowson dished out a team-high 24 assists and added nine digs, while Molly Littlefield collected 12 digs, Alison Bierwagen recorded 21 assists, while Aubrey Acheson totaled three aces and Zoe Hall posted four blocks.
- Rutgers' Aspen Maxwell led all players with 20 kills, adding 12 digs. Zora Hardison and Lexi Visintine both scored 13 kills, while Lily Bolen posted a match-high 51 assists to go along with 10 digs. Hardison registered a match-high seven blocks, while Alleigh Dutton collected a match-high 17 digs.
- Buffalo edged Liberty 30-28 in set one before posting a 25-15 victory to take a 2-0 led into intermission.
- The Lady Flames took control of the match from that point on, outhitting Rutgers by a combined .329-.148 over the final three sets. Liberty led set five, 11-6, before the Scarlet Knights pulled to within two at 11-9 and again at 12-10. Â
- Liberty is now 6-3 all-time against Rutgers, with each of the first eight meetings coming before the Scarlet Knights joined the Big Ten.
- Jeremy White becomes the first Liberty volleyball head coach in its NCAA Division I era to win each of his first three matches at the helm.
- Tonight marked the first time since Sept. 30, 2016 at UNC Asheville (18-25, 8-25, 25-22, 25-18, 15-9) that the Lady Flames have won a match when trailing 2-0.
- O'Brien recorded her first career double-digit kill match and first career double-double tonight.
- Littlefield recorded her 26th career double-digit dig match and first as a Lady Flame since transferring to Liberty from Gardner-Webb.
- Tonight was Jenna Otts' 21st career 10-kill match and second for Liberty.
- Overcash's .556 hitting percentage was the best by a Lady Flame since Madison Blane hit .625 (16-1-24) against Louisiana Tech, Nov. 3, 2023.
- The last time Liberty opened a season with a 3-0 record was 2023, when the Lady Flames went 8-0 to begin the campaign. Â
