
McGhee Signs Contract With JL Bourg in France

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty men's basketball all-time leading scorer Darius McGhee has signed his third professional contract, signing with JL Bourg in France for the 2025-26 season.
McGhee joins a JL Bourg squad that competes in the LNB Pro A, the highest level of professional basketball in France. JL Bourg has also represented France in European competition at second level EuroCup. The squad is based out of Bourg-en-Bresse, located in eastern France.
McGhee and JL Bourg will begin playing games in late September, with the season running through early June. JL Bourg finished the 2024-25 season with a 20-15 overall record. During the 2023-24 season, JL Bourg featured 2024 NBA Draft first pick Zaccharie Risacher (now of the Atlanta Hawks) on its roster.
McGhee spent the 2024-25 season with Telekom Baskets Bonn in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL), the highest professional basketball league in Germany. McGhee enjoyed a strong season with Telekom Baskets, leading his squad in scoring at 15.5 points per game. He also averaged 4.2 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 0.9 steals per game while making a team-best 98 three-pointers in 31 contests.
McGhee erupted for a season-high 44 points in a 96-91 win over EWE Baskets Oldenburg on Dec. 6 and scored 40 points while knocking down 12 three-pointers in a 123-88 victory over Chemnitz 99 on Dec. 21. The guard eclipsed the 20-point mark 11 times. He scored 37 points in his maiden game in the league, Sept. 20 at MoraBanc Andorra.
McGhee spent the 2023-24 season playing for the Indiana Mad Ants (now the Noblesville Boom) of the NBA G League, the affiliate of the Indiana Pacers. He averaged 7.1 points, 1.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game in 37 G League contests. In his first professional game (Nov. 11, 2023), McGhee notched a double-double of 15 points and 11 assists in a win at Sioux Falls. He scored a season-high 18 points and knocked down four three-pointers (Jan. 4, 2024) while adding six assists against the Santa Cruz Warriors.
McGhee also competed in the 2023 NBA Summer League with the Indiana Pacers, averaging 6.5 ppg and 2.0 apg.
McGhee currently ranks second in NCAA history for career three-pointers made with 528. He had an award-winning 2022-23 campaign in what was his final year playing for the Flames. The Roxboro, N.C. native was a 2022-23 AP All-American honorable mention selection and earned his third straight ASUN Player of the Year accolade.
McGhee was also a NABC District 3 first team selection and named to the USBWA District III team while being named a finalist for both the 2022-23 Lute Olson National Player of the Year and Lou Henson National Player of the Year awards. McGhee earned his second straight Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Player of the Year award as well.
McGhee set the Liberty and ASUN all-time career scoring records and finished his time as a Flame with 2,685 career points. He paced the Flames in scoring during the 2022-23 season and ranked third nationally in scoring average at 22.8 points per game while finishing No. 2 in the country in total points (821). The guard led the country in three-pointers made (162, program record, tied for NCAA single-season record) and finished second nationally in three-pointers per game (4.50).
McGhee's other recognitions during his final campaign included: four-time ASUN Player of the Week, ASUN All-Tournament team, Cancun Challenge All-Tournament team, game MVP of the Hall of Fame Classic, 2022-23 John R. Wooden Award® presented Wendy's® Preseason Top 50 Watch List, 2022-23 Lute Olson National Player of the Year Award Watch List and 2023 Bob Cousy Award Watch List.
