2 Flames Named Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars

Liberty's Ike Joy and Pascal Gunther have been named to the 2025 Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars team after an outstanding year on the course and in the classroom.

This is Joy's second appearance on college golf's top scholar-athlete listing, while it is Gunther's first time receiving this honor.

Liberty has placed at least one golfer on the Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars team for the last nine seasons and had 23 total golfers named to the list since 1993 (for a total of 38 selections).

A total of 556 NCAA Division I athletes from 190 schools earned 2024-25 Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar honors.

To be eligible for Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their associate's degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA.

In addition, they must participate in 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA, and under 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career GPA of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.

Joy had a banner season in 2024-25. He led the Flames with a 71.26 season stroke average, lowering his career stroke average to 72.56. The native of Denver, N.C., played 15-of-27 rounds at par or better last year (55.6 percent) and posted eight sub-70 rounds.

Joy was named to the All-CUSA first-team squad and was twice named CUSA Men's Golfer of the Week. He was also named to the CUSA Men's Golf All-Academic Team, the CUSA Commissioner's Honor Roll and the CUSA Commissioner's Academic Medal listing.

Gunther ranked fifth on Liberty's roster with a career-best 74.04 season stroke average. He finished the season playing 6-of-24 rounds at par or better (25.0 percent) and posted three sub-70 rounds.
