LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty women's tennis program and head coach Dash Connell have announced the signing of Aranai Martinez for the 2025-26 academic year.
"We are thrilled to have Aranai join our team, she will have a great impact on the doubles side," Connell said. "She brings a great work ethic and has a wonderful personality that will mesh very well with the culture we are developing at Liberty!"
The Vigo, Spain native has claimed three doubles championship titles at ITF events, including singles and doubles titles at the J30 Gijon and a J30 Aviles doubles championship. She has also finished as a doubles finalist at the J20 Silla and Villena. Martinez has ranked as high as No. 705 in the ITF Junior Rankings. She has finished as a semifinalist or runner-up in eight tournaments.
Martinez has earned a UTR (Universal Tennis) singles ranking as high as 9.01 and an 8.86 in doubles with a 22.2 WTN (World Tennis Number). She brings professional experience to the Liberty roster, having played in six ITF Pro Tour tournaments.
Listed at 6 feet tall, Martinez is currently the eighth-ranked U18 women's athlete in Spain and is the No. 49 ranked overall women's athlete.
The freshman joins Candy Wai as an addition to the 2025-26 roster. Liberty finished last year's campaign with a trip to the Conference USA Championship semifinal and a 5-2 regular season conference mark. The Lady Flames return all but one athlete from last season's roster.
