In response to the recent House vs. NCAA settlement and its transformative impact on college athletics, Liberty University Athletics is announcing a new era of donor engagement and support for its student-athletes through the Flames Club.
For the first time in NCAA history, colleges and universities are now permitted to directly facilitate and manage NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) opportunities for student-athletes.
In alignment with these changes, Liberty Athletics will offer Flames Club donors the opportunity to contribute to NIL support through team-specific Sport Excellence Funds.
"This is a landmark moment for Liberty Athletics and for college sports across the country," said Vice President and Director of Athletics Ian McCaw. "We remain firmly committed to Dr. Jerry Falwell's founding vision of Liberty competing at the highest levels of collegiate athletics, and we will continue to do so while holding true to our mission of Training Champions for Christ."
During this period of time, 15 of Liberty's 20 NCAA Division I athletics programs have won a regular season or tournament championship, resulting in a record-setting 25 total conference titles.
Spotlighting this success during the 2024-25 athletic year was Liberty's softball program and men's and women's basketball teams. Softball won a program-record 50 games, made its first-ever NCAA Super Regional appearance and finished the year ranked No. 15 nationally.
Liberty's men's and women's basketball programs dominated Conference USA play, sweeping both regular season and conference championship titles.
For just the third time in school history and the first since 2013, both Liberty's men's and women's basketball teams made the "Big Dance" with an NCAA March Madness appearance in the same season in 2025.
With the evolving landscape of collegiate sports, donor support remains more critical than ever to sustain and build upon this momentum.
Key updates for Flames Club donors include:
Liberty Athletics expresses sincere appreciation to Flames Nation and to those who previously supported NIL through third-party collectives.
"We are grateful for the fans who have stepped up to meet this need over the past several years," McCaw said. "Now, with this new structure in place, we are able to better serve both our student-athletes and supporters directly through the Flames Club."
As Liberty embraces these changes, the department remains rooted in its Christ-centered mission while pursuing excellence on the national stage.
