
Men’s Tennis Featured in ITA Atlantic Region Rankings

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty men's tennis team was featured across multiple ITA Atlantic Region Rankings, including the No. 4 team ranking. Three athletes, led by Joaquim Almeida with a No. 7 singles ranking, secured a singles ranking while Almeida and Siwanat Auytayakul earned a No. 4 doubles ranking. Carl Roothman (No. 11 singles) and Rodrigo Santiago Arraez (No. 13) were also included in the regional rankings.
The Flames finished the season with an 11-13 record including a finish as runners-up in the 2025 CUSA Men's Tennis Championship. Liberty earned a 2-1 record in head-to-head meetings with Atlantic Region teams.
Almeida earned a selection to the CUSA All-Conference Singles first team and was recognized on the CUSA All-Conference Doubles first team alongside partner Auytayakul. The senior claimed the No. 1 singles position in his first season as a Flame after transferring from VCU (2021-23). Almeida claimed a 10-14 overall singles record with a 9-10 mark playing in the No. 1 singles slot. He secured a 6-4, 6-3 triumph over Jacksonville State's Timo De Visser in the CUSA Championship semifinals.
Carl Roothman, earned the No. 11 singles ranking in the region, finishing his first season as a Flames after transferring from Oklahoma State. He also received a selection to the CUSA All-Conference Singles second team. The junior finished the year with a 15-15 singles mark and a 9-13 spring singles record, primarily playing in the No. 2 singles position. He picked up his biggest victory of the season with a triumph over No. 39 Yale's No. 2 singles player Zhengqing Ji, with a 6-7 (2), 7-6 (5), 1-0 (8) final.
Rodrigo Santiago Arraez caught fire in the second half of the spring season, slotting in at No. 13 in singles in the Atlantic Region. The sophomore closed the season with an eight-match singles winning streak and a 10-4 record in the No. 4 position. Arraez was awarded the CUSA Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week on April 2 following a 2-0 singles mark including a triumph over No. 70 FAU's Jan Kusy (6-1, 6-3) and No. 24 USF's Ettore Danesi (6-2, 3-6, 7-5).
Following a historic season, Almeida and his doubles partner Auytayakul earned a No. 4 regional ranking. They were earlier selected to the CUSA All-Conference Doubles first team with a 19-9 record for the year and a 12-4 mark in the spring season. The duo concluded the season with a No. 51 ITA national ranking, finishing as the highest-ranked doubles pair in CUSA. In the fall season, the team went 5-0 at the ITA Atlantic Regional, beating out Old Dominion's No. 8 pair 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (8). Almeida and Auyataykul qualified for the NCAA Individual Championship and became the first Liberty athletes to win a match at the premier event.
