
Cannings Earns 3 A Finals at Bell Canadian Swimming Trials

VICTORIA, B.C. - Liberty sophomore Kamryn Cannings had an outstanding showing at the 2025 Bell Canadian Swimming Trials, earning three A Finals appearances in the meet, held Saturday through Thursday at Victoria Saanich Commonwealth Place/
Cannings' Results
• Sunday, June 8 – 100 butterfly – 7th place overall (1:00.13) (qualified in 1:00.16)
• Monday, June 9 – 50 freestyle – 5th place overall (25.79) (qualified in 25.83)
• Tuesday, June 10 – 100 freestyle – 14th place overall (57.03) (qualified in 56.32)
• Thursday, June 12 – 50 butterfly – 7th place overall (27.79) (qualified in 27.27); 200 freestyle (2:03.32, qualified for B Final/scratched final)
Notable
• The Bell Canadian Swimming Trials served as trials to select Team Canada for the 2025 World Aquatics Championships, which will be held in Singapore this summer. The top two finishers in each event's A Final made the Canadian roster for the World Championships.
• On Sunday, Cannings competed in the A Final of the 100 butterfly, finishing seventh in 1:00.13. Two-time Olympian Mary-Sophie Harvey won in 58.37, with Ella Jansen taking second in 58.96.
• Cannings then had her best showing of the Championships on Monday, placing fifth overall with an A Finals swim of 25.79. Seven-time Olympic medalist Penny Oleksiak won with a time of 24.89, while four-time Olympic medalist Taylor Ruck (24.96) took second.
• Cannings finished with a B Finals appearance in the 100 free on Tuesday night, taking 14th overall in 57.03.
• On Thursday, although she qualified for the B Final in the 200 freestyle, Cannings scratched the final to focus on the 50 butterfly. Cannings then placed seventh in the 50 fly A Final in 27.79. Taylor Ruck won with a 26.47 clocking, while Matea Gigovic (26.52) claimed second.
Historically Speaking
• This is the 15th year in a row in which the Lady Flames have had at least one swimmer compete at the national or international level. Last week, Aly Bozzuto and Malia Francis competed in the Toyota National Championships at IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.
• Cannings ties Alicia Finnigan (5th place in 200 butterfly at 2018 USA Swimming Winter Nationals) for the highest finish in a national meet in program history.
