LONG BEACH, Calif. – Liberty's Addilae Watts won the Pacific Coast Invitational women's javelin title on Thursday, headlining six top-10 finishes for the Flames' throwers at Jack Rose Track.
Women's Recap
Watts' first javelin throw of the morning measured 153-9. That mark held up to win her second javelin competition in seven days by 10 inches. The program record holder had previously recorded a victory at the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic on April 11, about 2,500 miles east of Thursday's venue.
All-American Paola Bueno placed seventh in a deep women's hammer competition with a top effort of 200-9.
Freshman Bethany Tate was just an inch off her shot put personal best, placing ninth at 48-11.75.
Sofia Mojica closed out the evening with a 152-4 discus throw, adding eight feet to her previous season best.
Men's Recap
Two weeks after throwing the hammer a personal-best 216-3 at the Florida Relays, Kellen Kimes eclipsed that mark three times Thursday morning (219-4, 218-5 and 218-4). The sophomore's 219-4 effort from round three placed third in the competition and strengthened his hold on the No. 3 spot on Liberty's all-time list. Kimes is now just three feet away from Jon Hart's program record of 222-4 which has stood since 2008.
Ethan Mylin eclipsed 60 meters in the men's javelin for the first time this season, reaching 197-8 to finish seventh.
Christian Hicks' 182-3 discus throw was good for seventh place. Meanwhile, freshman Trevor Veenstra came in 13th after pushing his personal best from 156-4 at last week's Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic to 170-8 on Thursday.
