Fairley’s Program-Record 33:29.29 10K Punctuates Bryan Clay Day 1
4/17/2025 1:02:00 AM | Track and Field
AZUSA, Calif. – Adelyn Fairley closed out Liberty's outstanding Wednesday of racing at the Bryan Clay Invitational by lowering her own women's 10K program record to 33:29.29. The day's other impressive marks included a new Liberty freshman record for the men's steeplechase (Dale Hall's 8:59.36).
Women's Day 1 Recap
Fairley's 33:49.00 performance at the 2022 Virginia Challenge had stood as the women's 10K program record for three years prior to Wednesday night. She sliced 20 seconds off that mark, crossing the finish line in 33:29.29 for 10th place in the event's fastest seeded section.
The impressive CUSA-leading clocking should give Fairley the opportunity to race the 10K at the NCAA Division I East First Rounds meet for the third time in her career (also 2022 and 2023).
All three Lady Flames who competed in the steeplechase Wednesday evening made significant improvements to their personal bests and climbed the program's top 10 list. They included Katrina Schlenker (10:20.22, 30-second personal best), Marie Hostetler (10:20.38, 32-second personal best) and Katie Sigerud (10:42.51, 27-second personal best).
Schlenker, Hostetler and Sigerud moved up to No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5, respectively, all-time for the Lady Flames. Schlenker and Hostetler also put themselves in contention for a possible NCAA Division I East First Rounds berth.
The only Lady Flame ever to run the steeplechase faster than Schlenker, current Liberty assistant Calli Doan opened her outdoor campaign with a 9:58.40 clocking. That was good for 10th place in Wednesday's fastest section.
Men's Day 1 Recap
Racing the second steeplechase of his collegiate career, Hall slashed his personal best from 9:16.64 at the Colonial Relays to 8:59.36 on Wednesday. In the process, he shattered the Liberty freshman record of 9:15.37 that Josh MacDonald had achieved at the 2011 Big South Championship.
Hall blazed a 66.60-second final lap, becoming the eighth Flame ever to dip under the 9:00 mark in the steeplechase and moving up to third place in his heat, the opening race of the Wednesday evening session.
This marks the third year in a row a Liberty men's distance runner has clocked a program freshman record at the Bryan Clay Invitational, following Jack Cottrell's 29:54.55 10K in 2023 and Edwin Kiprop's 13:47.63 5K a year ago.
Nicholas Kiprotich (29:37.60) and Nathan Moore (30:04.50) got the day started with a pair of 10K personal bests. The defending CUSA champion in this event, Kiprotich moved into eighth place in program history. Meanwhile, Moore slashed 30 seconds off his previous 10K best.
