Engle Places 12th in Pentathlon for 2nd Team All-America Honors

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Liberty redshirt junior Meredith Engle made a successful debut at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships, Friday at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. She placed 12th in the pentathlon with 4,122 points, becoming an All-American (second team) for the first time in her career.
Engle is Liberty's first pentathlete ever to earn All-America distinction and the first Lady Flame to become an All-American at this meet since 2016 (Ednah Kurgat – 5K).
The native of Dillsburg, Pa., matched her seed entering the championship with her 12th-place finish. She now owns the four highest pentathlon scores in program history. The CUSA champion broke the Liberty record three times earlier this season, scoring 3,989 points at the Liberty Kickoff, 4,131 at the Penn State National Open and 4,196 at the CUSA Championship.
Event-by-Event Breakdown
60 Hurdles
Engle started her morning in impressive fashion, winning her heat of the 60 hurdles in a personal-best 8.73. A notable improvement from her previous best of 8.83, the time ranks No. 10 in program history.
High Jump
Engle made a third-attempt clearance at 5-6.5, topping out less than an inch off her season best.
Shot Put
Engle's second attempt, measuring 42-4.25, was her longest. It ranked seventh among the 16 pentathletes competing in the event.
Long Jump
Engle improved on each of her three long jumps, ending up with an 18-7.25 leap on her final attempt.

Engle closed out her day with a 2:18.63 clocking, crossing the finish line ninth in the four-lap race.
