Liberty Notches 10 Top-5 Finishes on Saturday

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The host Flames recorded 10 top-five showings on Saturday, the final day of the Liberty Open at the Brant Tolsma Indoor Track at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.
Women's Day 2 Recap
The Lady Flames' distance crew was busy and successful on Saturday, beginning with four sub-5:10 clockings in the women's mile. Sophia Park (third place, 5:01.22) led the way, followed by Raini Mayo (fifth, 5:06.78), Emily Atha (seventh, 5:08.46) and Reagan Underwood (eighth, 5:08.83), who got to race in the same heat as twin sister Bryn Underwood of American. Ten Lady Flames have now run faster than 5:10 in the mile this season.
Liberty's total of sub-2:20 800 performers in 2025 grew to nine, thanks to the additions of Atha (16th place, 2:19.40), Rebekah Simmons (17th, 2:19.66) and Mayo (18th, 2:19.84) on Saturday.
Emma Unger then wrapped things up with a fourth-place showing in the women's 3K, crossing the line in 10:17.30.
Freshman Indiah Maroney made a successful collegiate debut, clearing 5-3.75 for fourth place in the women's high jump.
Sarah Gassman cleared 12 feet (12-0.5, to be exact) for the first time as a Lady Flame, netting third place in the women's pole vault. Teammate Emory Pafford's season-best 11-6.5 clearance was good for fifth.
Men's Day 2 Recap
Liberty's top finish of the day (second place) came in the morning's first race, the shuttle hurdles relay. Multi-event athletes Daniel Van Duren, Gabriel Willis, Hunter Bleam and Samuel O'Regan teamed up to run 33.81, finishing a close second to Marshall (33.59).
Taking to the track for the first time this season, Nicholas Kiprotich posted an 8:32.73 3K for third place.
Christian Hicks claimed fifth place in the men's shot put with a personal-best 51-4.25 effort.
Hunter Flack equaled his top pole vault clearance of the year (15-5), tying him with Campbell's Reagan Wise for third place.

The Flames will remain at home for the 11th annual Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational. Events are slated for Feb. 14-15 at the Brant Tolsma Indoor Track at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex. Portions of each day's action will be televised live on ESPN+.
Meanwhile, the Lady Flames' duo of Allie Zealand (mile) and Adelyn Fairley (5K) will head to Boston on Feb. 15 for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational. Their races will air on FloTrack.
