DURHAM, N.C. – The Liberty Flames hit five home runs to muscle past the No. 17 Duke Blue Devils 12-4 on Wednesday at Jack Coombs Field.
Corner outfielders Nick Barone and Camden Troyer led the way for the Flames. Left fielder Barone had three hits, two home runs, five RBI and two runs scored in the contest, while right fielder Troyer collected four hits, one a home run, and two RBI and scored three times.
Third baseman Landon Scilly and first baseman Jaxon Sorenson each had three hits and a home run for Liberty.
The Flames built a 6-2 advantage through three innings after scoring four runs in the third inning on a three-run home run by Barone and a solo home run by Scilley, his first collegiate home run.
Liberty then added two in the fifth and three runs in the sixth for an 11-2 lead.
Liberty snaps a two-game losing streak and defeats a nationally ranked ACC team on the road for the second consecutive week, moving to 6-2 on the year. Duke falls for the second consecutive game and drops to 4-5 in the season.
