Liberty Set to Defend ASUN Conference Title
2/18/2025 9:56:00 AM | Women's Swimming & Diving
Liberty vies for its seventh straight conference title, competing at the 2025 Atlantic Sun Women's Swimming & Diving Championship, held Wednesday through Saturday at Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tenn.
Liberty won six total CCSA titles, including each of the last five in a row (2019-23) before claiming the first ASUN title in 2024. The seven women's swimming & diving programs in ASUN are Liberty, Bellarmine, FGCU, Gardner-Webb, North Florida, Queens and UNC Asheville. Men's swimming & diving includes Bellarmine, FAU, Gardner-Webb, Old Dominion and Queens.
Liberty's six straight conference titles are the sixth longest active conference championship streak in Division I women's swimming & diving. Texas (Big 12) and Navy (Patriot League) have won 12 conference titles in a row, while Villanova (BIG EAST), Oakland (Horizon League) and Denver (Summit League) have all won 11 straight.
This will mark the fifth time that Liberty has competed in a conference meet held in Knoxville. The Lady Flames claimed their first-ever CCSA title in 2014 at Jones Aquatic Center, while Liberty won CCSA Championship in Knoxville in 2020 and 2023. The Lady Flames then earned the ASUN title in Knoxville last season. All four times Tennessee hosted the CCSA meet, Liberty earned the title.
Following this season, Liberty, James Madison and Marshall will join the American Athletic Conference as affiliate members in women's swimming & diving beginning on July 1, 2025.
The 2025 ASUN Swimming & Diving Championships will feature four full days of action.

A total of three ASUN schools (Liberty, FGCU and UNC Asheville) who will have divers competing in the ASUN Championships.
Liberty (2014, 2019, 2020, 2021(t), 2022, 2023) and FGCU (2009-13, 2015-18, 2021 (t)) combined to win the CCSA Championship 16 out of 17 years of combined (CCSA/ASUN) conference history. The Eagles and Lady Flames finished 1-2 in some order 11 years in a row prior to James Madison's runner-up finish in 2023, and then Queens placed second to Liberty in the 2024 ASUN Championship.
15th-year Head Coach Jake Shellenberger has led the Lady Flames from the program's inception. He has posted a 136-40 dual-meet record, being named CCSA Women's Swimming Coach of the Year five times (2012, 2014, 2019, 2022, 2023). Shellenberger was then named ASUN Women's Swimming Coach of the Year last year.
Last year at the ASUN Championships, the Lady Flames registered 26 podium finishes and seven event victories.
