Success around Liberty Athletics is not only limited to play on the field, as the Flames Club is coming off a record-setting giving day event.
During Liberty University's Annual Giving Day, last month, the Flames Club raised a record total of $3.3 million for Liberty Athletics' programs thanks to 2,214 donations. Last year, Liberty Athletics brought in $1.7 million during its annual giving day event.
The highlight of the Giving Day event was the launch of the Tom and Christine Dewberry Athletics Mission Fund.
This transformative initiative is designed to empower student-athletes to live out their faith and share the Gospel through regional and international mission trips.
This fund, made possible through a generous lead gift from Tom and Christine Dewberry of Central Florida, will provide Liberty's NCAA Division I student-athletes with unique opportunities to serve as the hands and feet of Jesus, using their platform to impact lives for Christ.
The Tom and Christine Dewberry Athletics Mission Fund aligns with Liberty Athletics' long-standing vision to integrate faith and service into the student-athlete experience.
The department's goal is to ensure every NCAA student-athlete has the opportunity to participate in at least one mission trip during their time on The Mountain.
Outside of the Dewberry Athletics Mission Fund, several teams used the 24-hour giving day period to raise much needed funds for their programs.
The top five athletics programs during Giving Day in 2025 were Softball (No. 1 - $68,140), Women's Lacrosse (No. 2 - $64,600), Women's Soccer (No. 3 - $57,807), Football (No. 4 - $52,578) and Cross Country/Track & Field (No. 5 - $29,483).
Some of these programs have already had success during the early parts of the 2025-26 athletics season.
Liberty's women's cross country team captured its second-straight Conference USA title, while sophomore Allie Zealand won the individual title at the championship event, last weekend.
Liberty's women's soccer team claimed a share of the Conference USA women's soccer regular season title and is the No. 2 seed in the CUSA Women's Soccer Championship event.
The Lady Flames will square off against No. 8 seed Missouri State in the CUSA Women's Soccer Championship title game on Friday at home inside of Osborne Stadium.
Overall, Liberty University's Giving Day on Oct. 22 experienced its largest donation total in the history of the 24-hour event — $7,458,965 from 7,113 gifts — thanks to the generosity of alumni, faculty, staff, students, and friends in support of the community's unified mission of Training Champions for Christ. This year's total surpassed last year's by almost $1.8 million (31.8 percent).
