"4 Downs" with FIU
#1 Liberty has only visited Pitbull Stadium once previously. The Flames defeated FIU 38-6 on Sept. 23, 2023, getting 100-yard rushing games from both Quinton Cooley and Billy Lucas. Liberty is playing its first road game in 38 days on Saturday. The Flames have scored a touchdown on their first drive in three of the last four games, going 3-1 during that stretch.
#2 Led by Evan Dickens' 344 rushing yards over the last two games, Liberty has posted back-to-back contests with 200 or more yards on the ground for the first time this season. The Flames are 3-1 this season and 24-3 under Jamey Chadwell when outrushing their opponents. Conversely, they are only 1-7 when being outrushed. The Flames need to win their next two games to finish with a road record of .500 or better for the sixth straight season.
#3 The Flames are 3-0 all-time against FIU, making the Panthers one of five current CUSA members Liberty has never lost to. The list also includes Delaware (1-0), LA Tech (1-0), UTEP (3-0) and WKU (5-0). FIU is the third of four Liberty opponents with a first-year head coach. Saturday marks the third contest of Liberty's first five-game November since 2014, an FCS Playoffs season.
#4 Liberty and FIU enter with matching 4-5 records. The Flames need two more victories to become bowl eligible for the seventh consecutive season. Meanwhile, the Panthers need two triumphs to become bowl eligible for the first time since 2019. FIU has won four games or fewer in each of the last five seasons, entering 2025.
A LIBERTY WIN WOULD...
Group of Five
Since Liberty joined Conference USA in 2023, the Flames have found tremendous success against the five teams who remained in the conference after the restructuring.
In the last three years, Liberty is a combined 10-0 against FIU (2-0), UTEP (3-0), Middle Tennessee (2-0), WKU (2-0) and Louisiana Tech (1-0).
Only two of those contests (31-24 vs. FIU, 2024; 42-35 vs. Middle Tennessee, 2023) were one-score games.
Liberty has outscored those five opponents by a combined 373-208 since 2023.
Sunshine State
Liberty is 4-10 all-time when playing in the state of Florida, including 2-9 in true away games and 2-1 in bowl games played inside the Sunshine State. The Flames are 3-1 in their last four trips to Florida.
Liberty is 6-12 all-time against teams from Florida, including 4-3 in home games.
The Flames have won each of their last four meetings against Florida teams, starting with a home win over Jacksonville on Sept. 10, 2016. Liberty downed FIU at home in 2020 and 2024 while winning at FIU in 2023.
The Flames won the 2019 (vs. Georgia Southern) and 2020 (vs. Coastal Carolina) Cure Bowls in Orlando and fell to Toledo in the 2022 Boca Raton Bowl.
CUSA Success
Liberty is 26-6 all-time against Conference USA opponents at time of meeting. That includes a 17-5 record versus CUSA teams since joining the league in 2023.
The Flames went 8-0 in conference play during their first year in the league, on the way to the CUSA title and a New Year's Six berth.
Liberty was the first CUSA team to win each of its first 11 regular-season Conference USA games, prior to the Flames' loss to Kennesaw State, Oct. 23, 2024.
Bounce Back
Liberty is 4-5 in games immediately following a loss under Jamey Chadwell, who is 25-10 at the helm.
However, this season, the Flames are 1-3 after a loss, due to their four-game losing streak during September. The Flames' 19-8 win at UTEP snapped their winless streak on Oct. 8.

- Liberty owns a 3-0 all-time record against FIU, including a 38-6 victory in its only previous visit to Pitbull Stadium (Sept. 23, 2023). A year ago, the Flames defeated the Panthers 31-24 in OT at Williams Stadium, sealing the win on Christian Bodnar's sack and forced fumble.
- Jamey Chadwell is 25-10 in his third year at Liberty and owns a 56-16 coaching record dating back to the start of 2020. The Flames are 9-5 in road games under Chadwell but just 1-3 this season.
- The Flames have gone 3-1 since QB Ethan Vasko returned from injury at UTEP on Oct. 8. The first-year Flame rushed for his fifth TD of the season against Missouri State, equaling his career high.
