LYNCHBURG, Va. – During August and September, Liberty student-athletes collected donations for the Dollar Makes A Difference (DMAD) campaign. Student-athletes raised a total of $10,927. For the third straight year, the Flames football program led the way by raising $3,156.
With the generous donations, Liberty Athletics supported 11 Lynchburg community schools, 47 Lynchburg area teachers, 25 foster care children and children of Liberty University campus housekeepers.
Since the establishment of Dollar Makes A Difference in 2010, Liberty's NCAA Division I student-athletes have raised over $105,500 for Lynchburg community area schools. The funds have been used to purchase highly requested school supplies to help meet the needs of both students and teachers.
"Dollar Makes A Difference is so much more than going out and raising money. It allowed our team to come together and work for something bigger than ourselves," said Liberty field hockey sophomore Avery Pollock. "Dollar Makes A Difference helps raise funds for school supplies for local classrooms. We are beyond blessed to have the chance to positively impact young kids' school years in any way that we can!"
This year, in addition to providing school supplies to elementary schools located in Lynchburg and surrounding areas, Liberty Athletics aided specific teachers in meeting their classroom needs by asking them what specific supplies they needed to allow their classrooms to operate smoothly. In addition, Liberty Athletics supported children in Lynchburg foster care and the children of the Liberty University housekeepers.
Liberty University student-athletes give their time and efforts in demonstrating love and care by serving the local community throughout each school year. Using the NCAA Athletics platform, Liberty's student-athletes make a difference in the lives of individuals of all ages in both the public and private sectors.
"Love. Care. Serve." is the promise Liberty student-athletes have for each other and the Lynchburg community with the goals of demonstrating love, caring for those in need and serving with a grateful heart.
