As part of its annual Giving Day fundraising efforts, Liberty University Athletics is thrilled to announce the establishment of the Tom and Christine Dewberry Athletics Mission Fund.
    Â
This transformative initiative is designed to empower student-athletes to live out their faith and share the Gospel through regional and international mission trips.
    Â
This fund, made possible through a generous lead gift from Tom and Christine Dewberry of Central Florida, will provide Liberty's NCAA Division I student-athletes with unique opportunities to serve as the hands and feet of Jesus, using their platform to impact lives for Christ.
    Â
The Tom and Christine Dewberry Athletics Mission Fund aligns with Liberty Athletics' long-standing vision to integrate faith and service into the student-athlete experience.
    Â
The department's goal is to ensure every NCAA student-athlete has the opportunity to participate in at least one mission trip during their time on The Mountain.
    Â
Looking ahead, Liberty Athletics aims to offer at least one missions trip annually and will eventually grow the number to multiple trips per year. These trips will strategically be scheduled to accommodate each athlete's playing season.
    Â
To sustain this vision in perpetuity, the Flames Club and Athletics Department are working to raise $5 million to fully endow the fund.
    Â
Planning is already underway for the inaugural mission trip, set for June 2026 in Guatemala. These trips will include a diverse group of student-athletes and staff from various athletics teams, coordinated in partnership with LU Send, Liberty University's travel office.
    Â
In the future, student-athletes may have the opportunity to earn academic credit for their participation, further enriching this life-changing experience.
    Â
"We are deeply grateful for Tom and Christine Dewberry's generosity and their heart for Liberty's Christian mission," said Vice President and Director of Athletics Ian McCaw. "The Tom and Christine Dewberry Athletics Mission Fund provides a distinctive opportunity for our student-athletes to grow in their faith and share the Gospel globally. In an era of rapid change in college athletics, this initiative keeps us anchored to our mission of training Champions for Christ."
    Â
The Dewberry's commitment to Liberty extends beyond this transformative gift. The couple recently made a significant contribution to name the scoreboard at Williams Stadium, further demonstrating their dedication to advancing the University's mission.
    Â
"The Tom and Christine Dewberry Athletics Mission Fund is a powerful reflection of Liberty's commitment to being unapologetically Christian," said Dr. Dondi Costin, President of Liberty University. "This fund embodies our core principles by equipping student-athletes to make an eternal impact in the name of Jesus Christ. We are so thankful for the Dewberry's partnership in this Kingdom-focused work."
    Â
The Tom and Christine Dewberry Athletics Mission Fund offers a new way for supporters to invest in Liberty Athletics through the Flames Club.
    Â
Contributions to the fund are 100 percent tax-deductible and, while they do not qualify for seating or parking privileges, will earn donors two Flames Club points per $100 contributed. These points enhance priority for seating and parking in future years, as well as for bowl game and NCAA postseason events.
